Tainted foods and fetishes.
It is Sunday again. When I lived in Dubai, Sunday was like Tuesday here in the Western world...Friday is the sacred day in that part of the world. To me, Sunday is a quiet day...it is neither sacred nor holy...it is just noticeably quieter, which is nice. Fridays in Dubai were just the day off. It is all how one looks at the situation.
I read a quote by the photographer Ruth Bernhard today ~ "If you can't see what is not visible, you can't see anything." This, in another way, makes me think of the saying, "Ignorance is bliss." Of course I am considering these two thoughts from my point of view, which from here, is with respect to our food supply!
I also read about four things today. The first three: 500 million tainted eggs, 100 tons of tainted animal product (what exactly does that mean?) and a food fetish called Feederism (where gorging yourself is sexually pleasing.) What a mess, I thought.
The fourth article I came across was about a very vibrant and engaging man in his late 70's (maybe early eighties) named, Michael Grbich. His life has been a series of incredible tragedies, each of which made him stronger, more confident and trusting. How wonderful and amazing to learn about such a bright, positive being amidst so much dark and negative news.
Everything in life is about balance. Although the food system that allowed the tainted eggs and 'animal products' to be produced and shipped out for human consumption dominates and represents our main food supply, we have little farms popping up in back yards, in school yards, on the roof tops of buildings and even in the back bed of trucks today. If we focus our efforts on this end of the spectrum, significant change is bound to occur...and then no longer will we read about the dark side of a cruel and flawed system.
This change will happen when we can see behind what is on our plates.
