Got Milk? Avoiding Dairy, Particularly Cow's Milk Products
Eating really well means eating mainly fruits & veggies. Meatless Mondays help to remind us of the problem with meats...but we need to also be reminded of the problem with dairy products...
Got Milk? Since the National Dairy Board (NDB) was authorized under the Dairy Act of 1983 to promote milk and other dairy products in the marketplace, it and the National Fluid Milk Board (FMB) have spent over $1.1 billion dollars on advertising.
and what about the ugly truth?
There is so much conclusive scientific evidence that consuming cows milk is unhealthy. However, the advertising and promotion of this evidence is buried well beneath the US Dairy Industry's flexed muscles. Because of the overwhelming evidence supporting the unappreciated health dangers of consuming animal-based foods including all types of meat, dairy and eggs, our 'moderate' menus have very limited meat and no dairy.
So what are our choices? If we are talking about Vitamin D, this is not a nutrient that we need to consume. Our bodies can make all that we need simply by exposing ourselves to sunlight for 15 or 30 minutes every couple of days. So let's talk about a drink option habit we have been raised on for generations...
If not milk, then what? Soy? Many controversies here which we will not get into now - except that the bulk of soy in America is genetically modified ~ something most other nations ban as illegal...leaving us Americans as blind, deaf and dumb guinea pigs for an extremely profitable and profit-oriented industry.
What about Goat's Milk? Joulia's experience:
When I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polysistic Ovarian Syndrome) I was told that I had to remove cow dairy from my diet. The doctors gave me the option to use Goat milk instead, at first I was a little apprehensive about goat milk. I didn't notice a great difference, only when you heat the milk, there is a slight gamey taste. I have been using goat milk for about 2 years my skin has improved and my digestive system has improved. In addition my oldest daughter has very dry skin, since she has started drinking goat milk her skin has improved. If you have any digestive problems or are lactose intolerant use goat milk as an alternative you will be very happy with the results.
