The best diet to live your life by

As we get closer to opening our first doors and to making it easy and affordable to eat truly healthy, we want to remind you that the key to losing weight is through eating a diet of mainly fresh fruits and veggies while moving your body everyday.

There are wild and wacky diets that are designed to distract those who are addicted to the disasterous American processed foods, making it in the end, impossible to create a healthy body and ideal weight. Check out The Twinkie Diet...read carefully!

Mark Haub, a nutrition professor at Kansas State University went on what he called "the convenience store diet," which consisted of alternating Twinkies, Hostess and Little Debbie snacks with Doritos and Oreos.

The premise of the diet was to test whether controlling calories alone allowed you to lose weight and what that weight loss did to the other health indicators like cholesterol.

Haub dropped his diet to 1800 (mostly bad calories) per day from about 2600 calories per day. Two-thirds of his diet comprised junk food, he also had a daily multivitamin and protein shake and ate veggies (a can of green beans or 3 to 4 celery stalks per day.)  His body mass index went from 28.8, nearly obese, to 24.9, normal. He now weighs 174 pounds. Haub's "bad" cholesterol, or LDL, dropped 20 percent and his "good" cholesterol, or HDL, increased by 20 percent. He reduced the level of triglycerides, which are a form of fat, by 39 percent.

The big mistake about flouting this diet is that people might think weight loss automatically equates to better health!

For a short period of time calorie control alone can have a positive impact on weight loss and some vitals like cholesterol, but over time nutrient deficiencies cause severe illnesses of all kinds, including illnesses like heart disease, osteoporosis, depression, and cancer.  No matter how much you want to believe it, you can not get crucial life-giving nutrients like protein, iron, calcium, and all your vitamins from junk.

These 'foods' are laden with high fructose corn syrup which makes it nearly impossible, to keep to your caloric constraints. High fructose corn syrup interferes with the body's metabolism because it slows down the secretion of leptin in the body. Leptin is a crucial hormone that signals you're full and to stop eating. So basically, foods like these are like an addictive drug

Foods with high nutritional quality have many virtues including the capacity to produce fullness on fewer calories. Thus, eating until full means also being lean or having your cake and eating it too!

Dr. David Katz explains: Severe illness of all kinds is associated with sudden drops in total cholesterol. Drug addiction, chemotherapy, cholera and advanced HIV are all associated with weight loss. Cancer rather predictably leads to declines in both weight and lipids as it advances. These associations are more than sufficient to show that health cannot be summed up by weight and lipids. An overwhelming body of research shows which dietary patterns do produce lasting good health - all emphasize wholesome, mostly plant foods direct from nature. None emphasizes junk foods.

Twinkies are made from 37 ingredients including sugar (under 3 different names), partially hydrogenated oil (deadly transfat), and an array of artificial flavorings and colorings.

And finally, it is important to note that once Mark Haub added meat back into his diet, his cholesterol levels increased notably.
