Dioxin Warning: Meat and Dairy.
Dioxins are highly toxic environmental pollutants, they are omnipresent and have the dubious distinction of belonging to the “dirty dozen” ~ a group of dangerous chemicals known as persistent organic pollutants.
In the environment, dioxins tend to accumulate in the food chain, mainly in the fatty tissue of animals. The higher in the animal food chain one goes, the higher the concentration of dioxins. More than 90% of human exposure is through food, mainly meat and dairy products and fish and shellfish. Very low levels are found in plants, water and air.
Dioxins can cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage our immune system, interfere with hormones and cause cancer. Because dioxins are everywhere, we need to reduce our exposure to them. Cutting down on the ridiculous amount of meat and dairy in the average American's diet, is a step that may save your life.
