The 1st Packaging-Free, Zero-Waste Grocery Store in the U.S.!
We've saluted Walmart and Starbucks and cities like Los Angeles for focusing time, energy and dollars on reducing packaging waste, and now there is a new kid on the block trying to make a huge statement: In.gredients, in Austin, TX.
This vital and timely store will specialize in local and organic ingredients, but more importantly ~ it aims to eliminate all packaging.
In.gredients co-founder Christian Lane said in a press release: "Truth be told, what's normal in the grocery business isn't healthy for consumers or the environment... In addition to the unhealthiness associated with common food processing, nearly all the food we buy in the grocery store is packaged, leaving us no choice but to continue buying packaged food that's not always reusable or recyclable."
We add nearly 600 million pounds of food packaging to landfills every DAY in America. Buying prepackaged foods not only forces consumers to buy more than needed, 27% of food purchased for U.S. kitches end up in the trash!
The founders of In.gredients are working on raising funds in order to open their doors. Check them out below and check out their great story at IndieGoGo.com/ingredients and help make a big and needed difference.
