Another great reason to go Meatless on Mondays
Eating locally is a wonderful movement taking hold in America today for many reasons. It is one way we help reduce our carbon footprint, but a recent study explains the one thing we can all do to make the most impact is to cut our meat and dairy intake.
To put it simply, the study, published in the Journal of Environmental Science and Technology states: a "dietary shift can be a more effective means of lowering an average household's food-related climate footprint than 'buying local.'"
Did you know that poultry farms produce more ammonia emissions than oil refineries and steel mills combined? Or that our world's oceans are being quickly depleted of fish and much of the fish left are poisoned by our man-made pollution?
However, know that Red-Meat production is about 150% more greenhouse gas intensive than chicken or fish production.
Rachael Cernansky recently wrote an article titled: New Study: Going Meat-Free One Day a Week Saves More Greenhouse Gas Emissions Than a 100% Local Diet.
So, besides reducing the size of your waistline and creating better overall health in your body, know that eating less meat and dairy will also make a big and beautiful difference on the health of our planet as well.
