About Drugs & Surgery, Diet & Lifestyle
While the film Forks Over Knives is out in theatres, hopefully near you, try not to miss this important body of information. Knowledge is power and today, knowledge is so much more available to us...we need to take advantage of this and also support the people who spend their lives trying to safeguard ours.
More and more bodies of evidence are coming out to the general public with respect to fighting and reversing disease with diet. I am reading one such book by Dr. Dean Ornish titled The Spectrum. In it he writes:
Our research has shown that your body often has remarkable capacity to begin healing itself - and much more quickly than people once realized - when we address the underlying cause of illness. For many people, the choices we make each day in what we eat and in how we live are amongst the most important underlying causes (to good or bad health!)
If we do not treat and focus on the underlying problem, the same problem often recurs (repeated surgery), or a new set of problems may arise (side-effects from drugs or lifestyle) or more painful problems set in (death, health insurance costs.)
Dr. Ornish writes: We found that many people with coronary heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels and other chronic conditions are able to reduce or even discontinue these medications (under their doctor's supervision) when they make the diet and lifestyle changes...
Here is a quick 3 minute TED Conference presentation by Dean Ornish on preventing disease with diet. Very worthwhile...
