WHAT's in our water???
Food & Water Watch released a disturbing report last month addressing the problem industrial dairy farms have created in the past two decades with our ground water (Central Valley of CA in particular.)
They explain: This vital resource should be protected by our state and local leaders and public agencies, but groundwater in the Central Valley has become tremendously polluted, to the point where it is common for local wells to contain unsafe levels of toxic chemicals.
The problem is not just how frightening the pollution levels are, but even more so ~ the lack of anycare shown by the people in charge of protecting our ground water supplies.
An article by Jaymi Heimbuch explains: California is responsible for 21% of the US dairy production, and five of the top dairy-producing counties in the state are located in the Central Valley ~ that means the lobbyists are incredibly powerful and it's no wonder regulations have been weak and unenforced. Cows in the Central Valley alone generate the same amount of fecal waste as a city of 21 million people, much of which goes untreated and pollutes waterways.
