Last week the FDA recommended the commercialization of Genetically Modified Salmon, despite flawed scientific results!
GMOs are contaminating our food supply at an incredibly fast rate and Americans have NO idea. In 2011 it is estimated that 95% of sugar beets, 94% of soybeans, 93% of canola, 90% of cotton, and 88% of corn produced in the U.S. contain GMOs.
93% of Americans support mandatory GMO labeling but Monsanto & politicians continue to block this basic right. Over 50 countries around the world require labeling of GMOs ~ including Russia & China!
Most items in grocery stores include ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup, and veg oils made from corn, sugar, cotton seed and canola. Americans are consuming genetically engineered food without knowing it!!
In a very good article, Dave Murphy, founder of Food Democracy Now! explains: Occupy Wall Street (OWS) sprung from the legitimate frustration with the tight relationship between Big Business and elected officials ~ nowhere is this collusion so great as in U.S. food and agriculture production!
4 firms control 84% of beef packing and 66% of pork production. 1 company, Monsanto, controls patents on more than 93% of soy and 80% of the U.S. corn business.
We can each make a difference by demanding GMO labeling and supporting a Clean, Healthy, Safe & Sustainable food supply ~ buy as much organically grown and humanely raised as possible.
