Heathy Fast Food ~ fresh, local & organic

Many of us are focused on living healthier lives today. And more and more of us  are seriously considering eating better. At the same time, convenience is of the utmost importance in everything we choose...and with respect to eating, this means: fast food.

Typically, fast food means one thing: processed, extremely unhealthy food. green2go is working to change this with truly healthy fast food: using fresh, local and organic ingredients.

While we work on opening our first doors to provide you with truly healthy fast food, know that eating fresh, local and organic foods does indeed make a big difference to your overall health and well being, so make these choices whenever you can.

Organic food sales have been growing faster than comparable conventional food during the past decade, and is expected to continue increasing at a rapid pace. But the question (at large) remains: is organic always best?

The answer is a pretty clear ~ Yes.

It is well documented that kids who eat a predominantly organic diet have lower levels of pesticide residues in their bodies. It is not necessary to eat a completely organic diet as some thick skin fruits and veggies have less residue because of their thick skins. The Environmental Working Group reported that the highest levels of pesticide residue are found in: celery, peaches, strawberries, apples, blueberries, nectarines, bell peppers, spinach, kale, cherries, potatoes and imported grapes.

People buy organic foods for several reasons ~ concern for the most nutritious and safest foods, to support a more environmentally sound method of agriculture and a more economically just system for farmers and farm workers (workers on organic farms are exposed to lower levels of pesticides and insecticides, a major health concern for farm workers.)

"When we buy organic, we're subscribing to a different kind of environment ethic, and we're treating the people who grow our food better," says Mark Kastel, co-founder of the environmental watch-dog group, the Cornucopia Institute in Cornucopia, WI, which fights to keep our food standards high.

There is a small but growing movement of organic famers who do not bother to get organic certification due to the high cost.  Fresh and local food is always available at farmers markets and more and more supermarkets are carrying local and organic products.
