EATing Genetically Modified Organisms
It is estimated that at least 60% to 70% (some say 80%) of grocery-store products (processed foods) contain genetically modified organisms (GMO's.) Do you have any idea what you are ingesting or worse....what you are serving your children?
Although our government has allowed GMO's into our food system for the past 20-some years, KNOW that these unnatural organisms HAVE NOT BEEN TESTED on humans ~ essentially creating the largest human experiment to date.
Besides allowing these untested organisms into our food supply, there is NO requirement for labeling GMO's ~ despite the fact that they have been linked to the rise in allergies, food intolerance, infertility issues and auto immune diseases.
50 other countries around the world DO require labeling of GMO's, including China & Russia! As Ari LeVaux writes for AlterNet in Thanks to the FDA, You Really Have No Idea What's In Your Food: That's China and Russia, as in the big scary authoritarian countries known for communism, corruption and rampant human rights violations. They're at least doing a better job of trying to look like they care about protecting the freedom to choose what people put in their bodies.
KNOW that GMO's are in the form of corn or soy in addition to alfalfa, cotton, flax, papaya, rice, sugar, sugar beets, zucchini and yellow squash. HOW do you avoid ingesting GMO's? 2 ways: look for either the Certified Organic (USDA) label or the NonGMO Project label.
October is Non-GMO month. On the east coast, from Oct 1st thru Oct 16th, The Right2Know March is taking place in order to raise awareness.
Hundreds of other organizations have joined the effort, including consumer advocates, farmers, concerned parents, businesses, environmentalists, food and farming organizations, and members of the health care and faith-based communities. The goal of the coalition, called Just Label It, is to collect enough citizen signatures to its petition that the FDA will have to take action. Or force President Obama to make the FDA act.
Support our American right to transparency in food product labeling. Support our right to know and then to choose what we are putting into our bodies.
