Eating to live extremely well
A good friend of mine (Penn State grad, bachelor, mid-forties, travels A LOT, does triathlons, climbs mountains, surfs, sails, flies planes...an all around active guy) recently gave me a book to read titled: Eat To Live by Joel Fuhrman,M.D. with a foreword by Mehmet Oz,M.D.
I took this book with me to a family wedding where I spent the week with 6 other adults and 11 kids (18 family members under one roof!) Although it was hard to find quiet time - I was intrigued immediately by Dr. Fuhrman's theory and compelled to read it quick enough to begin slowly eating in the way he proposes while surrounded by junk-food.
The book is so comprehensive, scientifically backed, clear, concise and EASY to follow.
I have been researching and 'living' food, health and well-being for nearly three years - fully immersed in it. I am preparing to launch green2go restaurants ~ a truly healthy fast casual restaurant and marketplace in southern Cali (Orange County to be exact.) Because of ALL the knowledge and experience I have gained, I can pretty surely say: I believe whole-heartedly that the Eat To Live 'Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss' is the key to not only finding your ideal body weight (for most people this means losing weight) but enabling our bodies to function WITHOUT meds.
Because of my belief in this 'Formula', I have decided to eat this very simple way for the next six weeks, partially to test this out myself but mainly to lose the 20lbs of weight I have been half-heartedly fighting for years. I am 48 years old, nearly 5'3 and weigh nearly 140lbs. I really should be at 120lbs. If I can get there I am certain I will have more vitality and longevity. I pretty much feel good. Feeling GREAT is my goal.
Since I am going to do all this for all good reasons, I figured that all those around me, my 2 kids (11 & 13), my husband, and my biz partners and their families - should do it too.
To make it easy for everyone, I am going to video tape or tweet about every meal we make. So we can all do it together. The formula is very simple - 90% of what we will eat is fruits & veggies. The 10% balance will represent breads, pastas, animal products and such....
MANY People think 'YUK!' right away when 'Fruits & Veggies' are mentioned - this unfortunate attitude is why America is so obese and why diabetes, heart disease and cancers are thriving. Did you know that there is TWICE as much protein in broccoli than there is in a single serving of steak?
I am going to 'officially' begin eating this way on Sunday, August 1 for 6 weeks, which will bring us to the end of summer...If we can do this through the rest of the summer, our kids will start the new year with such a head-start.
It is NOT HARD. I am going to make it SO EASY and FUN!!!
I will let everyone know what to buy and what we will be making to eat every day in advance. It will be fluid, not strict. We will make it up as we go along (recipes will be kept to minimal ingredients...Think Mango, Bluberries & a Vinegar for dressing!)
Let's do it together and share our experiences, ideas and results....or just watch us do it.
I have begun already. I have a great little video clip of my kids making a breakfast from frozen berries (from Costco) and bananas...with a "flinch" of milk....Once I figure how to upload it into this place I will, and we will be off and running for our:
